Mazower Virtual Talk on 1821

We were delighted to host a Virtual Lecture by the renowned expert on modern Greek history Mark Mazower, Ira D. Wallach Professor of History, Director of Columbia Institute for Ideas and Imagination on

“What we do not know about 1821” on Thursday, October 8th, 2020.

With over 100 participants, there was great story telling that triggered questions like

"Does your study of Peloponnesian peasants during the war shed any light on the discourse about the “Greek communitarian ideal” and its end through the establishment of the modern Greek state?" or "Do you think that the decision of the Great Powers to fight Ibrahim was a response to the fear of a further expansion of the Egyptians, who had already taken over Crete?"

We thank Prof Mark Mazower for his time and interesting lecture.
